DAcast has been around 10 years, compared to our 13 years. Their business plan is called "Scale". Okay then. Looks like you get a lot for your *checks notes* $3300 up front annual charge. Maybe, but not really. Do you use 2TB streaming a month, for live streams? If you really do, instead of $280 per month (or $373 if you want month to month), ScaleEngine charges you exact usage. With us 2TB is $180. Do you really use 2TB of storage per month? If you do, it's very unlikely you will be using 2TB of streaming. In most cases we see, VOD usage is under 100Gb monthly. Don't overpay!
ScaleEngine always counts your exact usage and shows you what you used, and what you pay for. We don't convince you your events will be huge, or that your VOD will be watched by thousands of concurrent viewers. We know how streaming goes, and our plans are reasonable for this reason.
Let's talk about overages for a minute. We don't do that. Our rates are our rates. DAcast will either turn off your streams if you go over 2TB in your month, or if you buy "overage protection", they will charge you $0.25 per GB overage fees. ScaleEngine is a much better choice for high volume events, whether you have steady or spiky live stream viewership.
Amazon is cheap right? Couple of bucks right? $1.774/hr for a streaming server, sounds great! From their page,
You are charged $85.00 once a month regardless of how many instances you launch after subscribing.Their words, not ours. And you haven't begun to run your events. Along with prohibitive costs for 24/7 streaming the data ingress and egress charges will pile up. And support is only available on a payment basis.
ScaleEngine is $25 per month. Just with $85 to get your foot in the door at Amazon, you would be streaming 24/7 with 650GB of data streamed out to viewers. With effective direct support and excellent features that are built for real world streaming requirements.
Vimeo locks you into an annual contract, and caps your bandwidth at 2TB per month. Vimeo makes you use their player, and restricts where you can use it.
ScaleEngine is a pure month to month deal, and we charge you only for data you use. ScaleEngine has no restrictions on streams, or players. Your content is yours.
Wowza has a similar $25 a month pay as you go plan to ours, which we invented in 2010. Their offering is inferior, with hourly charges just to SEND any stream to them, and an expensive way to count viewers, by "hour", so that any single viewer costs you $0.10 whether they watch for 59 seconds (likely) or 59 minutes (unlikely). They also upcharge for streaming to Facebook, and do not offer VOD service, recording, or DVR.
Scaleengine's famous $25 per month plan has no charges to send us streams. You can stream 24/7 to us. 24/7 streaming is a whole other level of expense with Wowza Cloud. Our viewer charges are simply exact data usage. A 59 second view is charged as a tiny amount of data. One hundred of those might add to the one hour Wowza charges for ONE viewer. When our other features like transcoding pricing (at $100 flat monthly for 24/7 1080p) are factored in, we are a much better value. Plus we answer the phone and email you directly!
